The Isley Brothers is a highly influential, successful and long-running American music group consisting of different line-ups of six brothers, and a brother-in-law, Chris Jasper. The founding members were O'Kelly Isley, Jr. (1937 - 1986), Rudolph Isley, Ronald Isley and Vernon Isley (1942–1955). They are the only act to have at least one Hot 100 hit in each of six consecutive decades: the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s. The Isleys (as they are commonly called) were inducted to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1992.

Livin' in the Life" is the second song released from The Isley Brothers' 1977 album, Go for Your Guns. It was also the next-to-last song on the album, which only included seven tracks, with the last track actually a "part two" version of the song under the title of the album, in which was led by Ernie Isley, brother Marvin and Chris Jasper.

Between the Sheets is the 22nd album released by The Isley Brothers on their T-Neck imprint on April 24, 1983. The album is notable for the title track, the follow-up hit "Choosey Lover", and the ballad "Touch Me". The song also appeared in the 2007 comedy film, Norbit. The Isley Brothers recorded songs for the album to react to disappointing sales of their albums, Inside You and The Real Deal, albums that failed to sell and produce no hit single.

This song is by The Isley Brothers and appears on the album Go For Your Guns (1977). Somebody said, I was living in the lifeSomebody told me, I was living in the lifeThink that you might know, you find that you're really wrongMy pictures come and go but my living has got to go on. And if you think it's easy it's only 'causeYou ain't me and I ain't youCheck out the difference between the two.

Much like the band's 1975 hit, "Fight the Power", it was written by Ernie Isley and, in some parts, lead singer Ronald Isley and his brothers, Rudolph and Kelly, tripled in unison lead vocals though Ronald remained the dominant vocalist over the three. Ronald also helps close out the ending of the album before it fades. The song became a hit on the R&B and dance charts, reaching on the former, while also crossing over on the top 40 of the pop charts, reaching making it their first top 40 pop hit in little over two years.
