Harold Rome - Gone With The Wind: Original London Cast Album album FLAC
B9. If Doesn't Matter Now/Finale. Gone With The Wind: Original London Cast Album (CD, Album, Ltd, RE). Kritzerland.
Original London Cast recording. Kazuo Kikuta (Japanese); Horton Foote (English). Margaret Mitchell's novel Gone With the Wind. 3 Song list (London Cast Album). 4 Songs (Los Angeles - First Performance). In 1966, a nine-hour play (without music) based on Gone with the Wind opened at the Tokyo Imperial Theatre. This production was highly successful, and Kazuo Kikuta and the Toho Company decided to produce a musical version of Gone with the Wind at the same theatre. Kikuta wrote the book to the new musical, but the rest of the production. was largely the work of Americans-the music and lyrics were by American Harold Rome, the director was American Joe Layton, and the musical director was well-known Broadway conductor Lehman Engel.
Listening to the London cast album of GONE WITH THE WIND (reissued as a limited numbered pressing by Bruce Kimmel's Kritzerland label), the show sounds like the blockbuster of all times, so it's quite surprising to learn that the show's eventual Broadway run - to have starred Lesley Ann Warren as Scarlett and Pernell Roberts as Rhett no less - fell apart. I have both the London Cast (English) & the Japanese Complete recording & love both. It was to open here in Australia & work had started on preparing for its arrival, but after the London flop, it was abandoned and the great revolve for the revolving stage was tossed out and left to rust in a paddock somewhere in New South Wales: what a Shame. I think the major problem with this show was the name.

Poster for Original London production. A musical adaptation by Harold Rome played a year at the Drury Lane Theatre in 1972, starring June Ritchie as Scarlett, and featuring Bonnie Langford. Margaret Martin, a newcomer to songwriting and playwriting, contacted the Stephen Mitchell Trust, sending tapes of songs and a draft script, and the Trust eventually agreed to give her the rights to make an adaptation of Gone.
The soundtrack to Gone With the Wind has appeared in numerous forms since its first release on LP in the 1950s. The 1990 CBS/Sony reissue was the second attempt to expand its content significantly, adding some incidental music and refining the sound that appeared on the previous MGM and Polydor versions.
